have a MY94 wrx and wondered how long a clutch should last

it has only done 40000 miles and
it seems to feel like the clutch is slipping!

Not completly sure it is the clutch but since
yesterday it does not pull as hard but does make all the right noises
it does boost correctly too??

Weird one

any ideas appreciated

Cool

To test if the clutch is slipping try accelerating up a hill whilst in a high gear. If the clutch is slipping the revs will rise but your speed won't.

How long a clutch lasts is inversely proportional to the abuse it gets

I think a new clutch fitted costs around £600!!

Just had a clutch put in with new motor, my97 with 44000 miles, it was very juddery when cold and only slipped when pulling off hard in first gear, the dealer said it was badly worn and replaced it free of charge, but i think a clutch kit is around £250 to buy.

Question

Could it be that the clutch cable has stretched and this just needs replacing??? saves paying 600 quid when you can buy a new one for about a tenner
I would expect atleast 60k from a clutch thou!!!

It depends of the type of driving. If you do a lot of town driving then the clutch will last a lot less time than if you did a lot of motorway driving.

Scootie,

Like doc sez the revs go up but u dont accelerate u slowly go faster. When u try 2 overtake u`ll notice it (revs up but speed not) I wrecked mine last year, u could hear it rattle saying that I buckled the flywheel as well That was about 45 - 50K miles. BTW its the same model an year as yours Top tip get an uprated 1, I got an AP Racing cerimetalic paddle clutch an it rox Took a bit of gettin used 2 but s worth it in the long run. Hope this helps.

the clutch on my '94 wrx needed changing after 41,000 miles, just after i bought the car, the rev's gradually increased without any forward movement, but when it did start to go then it wore really rapidly, within 50 miles it was un-driveable.got it fixed under warranty so it did'nt cost anything.
