Question

Has anyone else had problems with a burst water header tank. My plastic one has just split around seem car is 94WRX. I tried bonding with epoxy but still blew it appart once hot

I am a bit worried if head gasket has gone, but not showing any signs.

Anyone any ideas ?

Maybe just one of them things.
You haven`t topped up with just water, allowing it to freeze and split the tank?
I would change the cap as well when you renew the tank as it may be faulty allowing pressure to build up slitting the tank.

I have had the pipe that is supposed to be attached to the header tank break free. MY93WRX I did epoxy it as it was a small area and not the seam. Has been fine, that was 6 months ago. Just thought I'd let you know. Yours is similar age model to mine, interesting

Anyone know of a company supplying Aluminium ones ?

Thumbs down

Had exactly same problem with 93 WRX - replaced with standard UK one - about £50

Never had any more problems - just one of those things I suppose

Thanks Wayne & Mark,
I have got a 2nd hand metal tank coming from Grade A Subaru hopefully tommorow. None of the brakers seem to have plastic ones. Will let you know how it goes.

Fitted Metal tank and all is working fine again. According to one of the breakers, the metal tanks were fitted after 1996 due to plastic ones being so weak. To fit it you need to make up some simple brackets as the bolt holes are not the same.

Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.
