I am considering a new 03 Turbo Sti. or Maybe an 02 Sti

Can anyone tell me the following

Cheapest used prices found for the 2 cars?
what is the "realistic" MPG for both?
what are the pro's & cons between both cars?

Many Thanx for any info!

It comes down to personal taste in the end mate...

I waited for the 03STI (blob eye) because I didn't like the look of the 02 (bug eye) STI but they are both good cars.

Prices:
I would have thought the 02 STI's are fetching mid to high teens and most are probably modded (PPP,de-cat, re-map etc)
The 03 STI's must still be fetching low 20's and many have the PPP upgrade.

A lot of people on this site are buying a new WRX and then adding the PPP, giving a car that is quicker than the standard 03STI but at the cost of a 02STI..and the MPG STI's can only dream of (25-30mpg as opposed to 18-22)

That's all I can say really, hope it's usefull.

Question

Hi, I am also considering a 2003 WRX with the PPP or a standard 2003 STi. I have heard that the WRX & PPP combination produces a better, faster car .. is that true ? I don't think I'll be doing any further mods to it, so is the WRX/PPP the better choice for me ?

Also, can you really expect that sort of mpg from the WRX/PPP setup ? .. I've been informed that its about the same as a standard STi. It makes a load of difference if its correct.

Thanks

I have got a 03sti. I tried both cars back to back. The wrx with ppp doesn't handle at all well, suspension is a little soft, brakes
not up to brembo, acc much the same...wrx 5 speed gear box is not as good a sti 6,but for £7000 more i hope you get a much better car

STi versus WRX PPP are pretty different cars. STi has stiffer suspension, 6 speed box, front suretrac diff etc. Round a track I still imagine it would beat a WRX PPP fairly easily. WRX PPP has same power, less weight, much more usable power at lower revs, and a softer/more comfortable ride.

When driving hard, the STi is the better car (although probably still not a patch on an imported Spec C!). For a comfortable but still fun everyday experience, better in traffic etc, the WRX PPP wins. All IMHO.

Regards economy. My tuned WRX02 - with a lot more power and torque than the WRX PPP - has averaged 24.7 mpg over the 19290 miles from new up to when I filled her up this evening, and I have used it "fairly enthusiastically" on numerous occassions!

Another point - don't forget, for "easy" tuning, the WRX is struggling for 300bhp without a turbo change, and have been known to break gearboxes by 350bhp. With an STi, 340ish is relatively easy to achieve, and I don't recall hearing of gearboxes breaking at >400bhp - the drivetrain is much stronger. That's where some of your 7 grand went.

As for "most" STi7s being modified, I doubt that. You have to remember the people who use Scoobynet tend to be the enthusiasts who will tune things. Most people in the "real world" tend to worry about things like warranty, money etc.

Hades .. can I ask what tuning have you done to your WRX and how much did it cost ? presumably cheaper than the £1600 for the PPP ?

Does it invalidate the warranty?
