Well i`ve just been in contact with my local dealer, and he says that no matter what back box i fit onto my Terzo, that it will make my warranty void

Is he correct?....i was hoping so much to upgrade to a ScoobySport one

Officially, any non-OE/Prodrive parts will invalidate your warrenty. That being said, most dealers will do a degree of 'blind eye turning', some more than most. I would just find a dealer who is more flexible. Most dealers are happy with a SS backbox, most fit them!!

Oh and the noise of the SS box....

When you also consider that the Scoobysport exhaust is a quality item (at least as good, if not considerably better than the original fit one) and it would probably cost you more to replace your backbox with an 'official' Subaru one, it does sound if your dealer is 'towing the party line'. My car is pretty standard, but like most I've changed the bb and a few other minor bits - with no problems from my dealer.

The dealer is talking crap - the warranty on the BACKBOX WILL BE INVALID not the rest of the car. I have one, and I've had no problems with respect to warranty.

If he won't play ball, TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.

Why not fit a WRSport silencer? This is the only Subaru approved silencer you can fit separately as it is the only one to satisfy their high quality standards.

is not strictly true. What my dealer said to me was that if the non Genuine part caused a failure of other parts then the warranty would be invalid.

Lets say that you changed the backbox and the gearbox failed the it is most unlikely that the exhaust is to blame and you could claim for the gearbox.. if you had the engine uprated to 500+BHP and the gearbox failed they may not be so amenable.

They do tend to turn a blind eye to simple mods such as brakes, exhaust and induction kits - mild tuning mods.

My two penneth.

Prob not worth fitting a WRSport silencer as its far more restrictive than the Scoobysport one.

Go ahead, change your dealer and enjoy your car!

And as Prodrive have the exclusive supply contract with Subaru UK, would it be unreasonable to assume that this was the ONLY backbox Subaru UK were actually asked to approve?

Perhaps I'm wrong. How many were submitted for testing? What makes?

The WRSport silencer is NOT the same as the one which is part of the performance package. It has been specifically designed for this application and is different internally as is the P1 silencer.

IM have been repeatedly asked to approve other silencers and will not as they do not feel that they meet their technical and noise criteria. The WRSport silencer is the only one that has been tested independantly and 'e' marked.

Paul, I have to agree with your comments, thanks for clarifying it to everyone.

I do actually think the Prodrive silencer is a top bit of kit, but at the time, I couldn't buy it on its own.

I didnt know there were TWO silencers. So all these poor people who shell out 2k for the PPP are getting an inferior silencer?

Whilst IM are it, perhaps they ought to approve a few more clutches that are more suitable for the power of the Scooby too!

When you buy a PPP you get a silencer which is matched to the spec of ECU fitted and gives the torque characteristics we were after as well as keeping noise to reasonable levels.

Question

Mike

is the backbox included in the PPP also "e" marked as the WRSport one? I think that stands for EU type approval.

Hold on a minute!!!

Look what is it to be WR Sport or a scooby sport.

This is the question that needs to be answered.

I am swayed towards the scoobysport for sound and looks. I want an exhaust that sounds the business.

Please help me on this one

Cheers

There is a rumour going around - supported by a slight but significant shift in behaviour for owners of UK sourced cars.

Up until now it has been clear and well documented that some fairly heavily modified cars have been well supported by IM/Subaru at warranty time, for some fairly big claims too. Given how tight the Subaru community is this has made PR sense.

It is now rumoured that there has been a policy shift at Subaru/IM that non-approved modifications can invalidate the warranty and this is being interpreted to the letter.

I haven't read an IM warranty as I am the owner of an 'illegal import' and so I cannot comment, but this would seem to include non-approved back boxes, taking the car on track, induction kits, the lot.

It may be useful to get some input from a warranty expert or some of you undercover dealers on here?

anyone want to buy some fireworks? -

they come in a box marked 'fireworks' but have been specially designed so that they don't produce any sparks and definitely no 'unpleasant' bangs.

since all explosive content has been removed, these fireworks have been certified by the 'powers that be' as being totally suitable and your personal safety is guaranteed.

hmm, thought not.
