Question

I have a 93 Impreza and was wondering if the 1.8 engine is interference or non-interference?

The car has 143000 miles on it and I think the timing belt has never been changed.

Thanks in advance.

Not entirely sure, but I think that, like the EJ20, the EJ18 engine is an interference design so it's not a goot idea to risk a cam belt failure. Replacement is a relatively simple procedure and should be completed by a good garage in 2-3 hours... get it done before it lets go...

Cheers,

Pat.

You're correct, I was able to confirm that today through a dealer (interference), your estimated time to replace one of these was spot on too. There's a dealer in this area that just happens to be running a special, $179.00 US dollars installed plus I'll get a loner .

First positive thing in several months for me.

Thank you much,

Cheers
