Engagement of 1st gear on my MY00 is tricky unless car at a complete standstill. Want to try another type of gear oil to see if it gets smoother, and understand from various posts here that Silkolene is the one to go for.

But what is the difference between
PRO SRG 75 and Silktran SYN5??
(Apart from the name.)

Thanks,
Simen.

Not sure of the exact difference but Pro SRG 75 used to be recommended by the bods at Powerstation and is now NOT recommended. The Silktran Syn5 I think is the one they now recommend. You could give them a call if you want to clarify this.

As for the stickiness going into 1st gear, I think this is quite common (happens on my STI5 and happened on my previous MY98) and will not be a great deal better with synthetic oil. However you cannot really go wrong using the best oil available.

SRG75 is for race/rally use only, where you expect to rebuild the gear box at frequent intervals. It offers extremely low drive train losses.

It will not provide sufficient protection for road mileage cars.

SYN5 is what you need and has transformed many sticky gearboxes. It also has friction modifiers, that improve the performance of the centre diff.

Question

Hello,

On my MY 98, i have the same 1st gear prob, but more, it crunchs when i get from 1st to 2nd gear and from 2nd to 3rd (more at high revs), does anyone knows if the Silkolene oil may change anything (i just got synthetic oil fitted in by my dealer, didn't changed anything)

Thanks !
