Question

I'm thinking of buying one of these as my Group N Mongoose system is too loud to get into many track days. Does anyone have the decatted Magnex system and do you have any trouble with noise regs?

Ta in advance

Andy

I'd like to hear info on this as well. I've got Magnex backbox and centre section. A Scorpion downpipe.

It sounds loud but I've yet to test it.

Thanks

I've got a Falkland Downpipe with a Magnex Centre (with silencer) and backbox.

My car got through the Noise section of the MOT without any problems!!

Hope this helps,

LOL LOL LOL
don't worry, i'll be there in 30mins to have it done, the reason i've gone there is that the Manager has a WRX, SIDC mender and IS interested in cars!!!he also ordered a Magnex centre section for this Scooby at the same time.
He also knows Mike Tuckwood.

have every faith the fiesta exchaust will fit fine! LOL

Cem
are you still up 4 taking me round in the evo6 at Donno (12th Nov)?
if they fit wiper blades as well thats good! could do with some new ones 4 winter!

Question

Salsa,

Halfords (Mansfield)priced me up a Magnex "cat back system" £208 fitted. They say the back box is not available separatly, Magnex web site seems to agree with them. Did you manage to get a Magnex backbox?

You can buy the Magnex backbox and centre sections separately. Of course they would like you to buy both at the same time

Judging from the price you've quoted, I think things are a little confused. The Magnex backbox is around £200 and the centre section with resonator is approx £110.

It depends on their definition of what 'from the cat back' is. Is this the main cat in the downpipe or the secondary one fitted in the centre section?

I now run a Magnex backbox and as of today a decat centre section with resonator (thanks Steve ). It doesn't sound that much louder on tick over, but rev it a little and it takes on a nice growl and I would agree that the turbo does seem to pick up a little quicker.

The resonator BTW performs a similar task to the one that is fitted in the front wing. It reduces noise. Some people have reported that the cabin gets very 'boomy' when you fit the straight through centre section - hence the reason they now fit a small resonator. A lot depends on how much you drive the car, but I would recommend you go for the one with the resonator (in fact some companies will no longer supply the non-resonator version, because of the number of complaints).

Chris

Downpipe next....

Thanks Chris,

More investigation required I think.

If the centre section removes the second cat will the first cat be good enough to pass the MOT on its own?

Cheers

Lee,

The first cat is the one that does all the work. The second is there for noise supresion (why you would want to supress the Boxer Beat I don't know.) and to clean up a little more.

So yes, you should fly through the MOT.

P.

got the 4" round end Magnex B/box from RoadRunner Nottm last year £218.50

Halfords at Netherfield sold me and fitted Magnex centre pipe for £91!!!! as this is the price at Roadrunner anyway (they match the best price!!) (i have the fitting instructions that were in the packet from the Magnex C/Pipe so i know its Magnex like the Back Box!!!!!!)
e-mail me and i will send you a pic of the tail pipe.
are you at Donno next sunday?

chrisL
where is this resonator thing?? is it on the centre pipe? or is it an airfilter?
as when i saw my centre pipe fitted last week, i thought it still had the 2nd cat still on it, but they said it was a sort of silencer! but still let the flow of air throught the pipe a lot lot better than when the 2nd cat pipe was there!

Yep - that bit that looks like a cat is the resonator. I assume that the straight through centre section (not having seen one) is exactly that - just a straight piece of metal tubing.

As you said, I doubt that you would be able to tell that much difference between a resonator and non-resonator centre section. It just a case of how much noise you want.

Does anyone know how loud/ quiet a Magnex back box is compared to a Scoobysport one. I have a full SS exhaust on an STI5 and it is pretty LOUD, attracting the wrong sort of attention when travelling quickly.

In terms of looks, they are very similar. In terms of sounds, I would say that the Scoobysport one is louder. Get yourself along to a meet and have a listen, you are bound to find all sorts of exhaust systems.

Cheers

You can still get the centre section without a resonator (but I think you will find it is a special order). As I mentioned before, some suppliers simply don't give you the option as the non-resonator CS can be very intrusive. It really depends on how many miles you do and how loud you want it.
