Hi people,
Every time I downshift to 1st doing anything over 10-15 kph (7mph?) the gearbox crunches.....I take it this is bad.

Is there any non OE gearbox parts I can purchase??? and can anyone recommend anything. The car is an MY94.

Can anyone recommend what may need replacing or could I simply upgrade oil or something?

 

Why would you need to change into 1st anyway?
The car (like most others) obviously doesn't like it, so perhaps you shouldn't do it?

It's the sychronmesh, My MY96 started doing it a couple of years ago and so I started avoiding changing into first for a bit and then it started to happen in second too so I got it fixed by the dealer. But it was when the car was just under three years old and so it was done under warranty. I think that the synchromesh is stronger on newer cars, but I don't know if you can upgrade it.
