Ref old thread on 5th gear engagenment problems. I had this at 8K on my 99MY UK turbo. A really bad crunch on upchange around 4000 revs.
Dealer has just fitted complete 5th gear cluster including syncro under warranty, and now perfect once again. No need to drop box, as accessed thro' back plate, apparemtly. Subaru are aware of this problem. Same Dealer now has turbo in with 4th gear syncro gone. I understand that there may have been a batch build problem. Incidentally, Dealer tried replacement synthetic oil first, without success.

 

Thanks for the info Greg, now I've got some ammo if this problem occurs again.
