Question

I thinking of changing the recirculating dump valve on a MY96, for a HKS/Blitz e.t.c. dump-to-athosphere valve.

Anybody see or had any problems, or suggestions.

Suggestions for which one ?

Thanks..

I have fitted the HKS SQ BOV to MY97 and have had no problems. It makes a chirping sound on throttle liftoff. It's VERY loud from outside the car on high boost. Expensive though at £250 odd quid. You can get inserts to alter the sound.

Throttle response seems to be better, and throttle control when the turbo kicks in is better too. Because it's sequential, it only opens the correct ammount depending on pressure.

In restrospect, I would have not bothered and spent it on the downpipe!!

Ideally, get your car on a rolling road to check the air/fuel mixture after fitting to ensure it's not affected. I know some cars to run too rich with this fitted.

Milky,

be careful if fitting a non-recirc dump valve to your car... it can cause the ECU to lean out the mixture. The ECU meters air into the engine and fuels accordingly. If air "escapes" then the mixture will be rich. It will notice this adn reduce the fuelling to compensate. Now when you floor it, it will be leaner than it was before (although not necessarily massively so... Scoobies overfuel anyway) and may cause problems. I'de recommend a KnockLink to be on the safe side, or if you can afford it, a PossumLink.

The PossumLink is a replacement engine management system which just ignores the MAF meter and runs solely off manifold absolute pressure (MAP) reading, so it' won't know or care about "missing" air.

Cheers,

Pat.

Thanks pat, I'll bear that in mind. I think from replies I've had on the BBS/IWOC and personal replies that the more expensive kit i.e. HKS is far better. Out of all the people I know of that have HKS seq. dump valves fitted, none are having problems.

Thanks

Darren.
