I drive a 96 Impreza Wagon.

To shift from 1st to 2nd gear is not smooth. I need to force the shift **** from 1st gear to off, and then also need to force from off into 2nd. There is no problem for 3rd and 4th at this moment. The force need to shift to 5th is a little bit larger.

I see in this bulletin board that there is a lot of complaints about the 5th gear.

May I know how to solve the problem of the 1st and 2nd gear?

Is the rebuild of the gear box a very large job? I may consider it when I need to replace the clutch disc.
