I wonder if you can help me?
Ever since I got my STi 5, back in January, there has been poor performance from the handbrake. PC helped adjust it from inside the car - and this has helped to some degree.
However, it just doesn't seem sharp enough for use on asphalt (it's OK on a loose surface). Is this usual with the STi 5?

The STI 5 handbrake is probably designed for a road car. I believe it is a cable pulled drum brake system, and I am pretty sure it doesn't unlock/disengage the centre diff on application, so it ain't ideal for handbrake turning the car!

You could look into upgrading to a hydraulic setup, but that would be expensive, and probably not road legal. I think I have heard of grooved drums
improving bite, but this probably has more downsides.

I would consider what implications handbrake turns have on the rest of your transmission before incorporating them into your driving on anything too grippy! I don't think de-clutching protects the diffs from this abuse!
