Question

Does anyone have any experience of any aftermarket manifolds?
I have decided to get the maximum power from my car without any ECU mods, and the downpipe and manifold seem the next likely candidates.
I know PE do a 'beautiful' one that 'gives 25bhp every time'. Would this be regardless of existing mods does anyone know?
I know it seems pricey pound per bhp gained, but I really don't want to interfere with any electronics just yet.
If a downpipe takes me to 260ish, can I really expect 285bhp with this (or any other) manifold?
What would the effect on torque be?
Only one car on the dyno scooby site (a 22B) has the PE one, and gains were impressive.
Any comments welcomed.
Cheers.

Stef.

Question

Stef, are you referring to the equal (tuned) length headers?

Ermmmmmmm......I guess so!
The one like the POWER manifold. I believe it is an equal length jobbie.
Is there a benfit in fitting any other types then?

jeez..money to burn or what !

that has to be the priciest bit of piping anywhere !

Steph, what boost are you running ? There may be easier ways to get more power still...

Stef,

Funny enough I've just gotten off the phone to Simon Chambo at GGR about manifolds and DP's. They also do a tuned pipe for a grand and 2 types of DP. They do the decat and the Sports DP's. The reason why I am mentioning this is that Simon advised me that the cat in the Sports DP is enough to get through the MoT WITHOUT a central cat. I like the idea of that. Its about £560 for the Sports DP.

PS - I do not work for GGR or have special treatment of any sort, although I've tried!

Stef,

If you like your unique boxer sound then don't fit equal length manifolds. The unequal length standard unit is the source of that boxer off-beat sound, loose the manifold and you get what sounds like a japanese 4cylinder motobike (so I have been told).

You can't set yourself up as a "Cossie killer" and remove one of the major unique qualitied your scooby, the cossie owners will assume it's the result of heavy modifications/or the need to sound like their cars!

Well, I had my Sti4 gas tested at an MoT centre. It has SS downpipe and no cat, plus a PE Phase 1 conversion. It passed, which shows you don't necessarily need a cat to get through the MoT. You are technically breaking the law, however.

I have seen a 22B with equal length headers on it, and i didnt like the sound, almost Pinto like, but apparently it does make a big difference to performance.

Firefox,

I don't suppose you have been sad enough to record and digitise the equal length exhausts noise into some WAV files to share with us? Didn't think so, oh well at least I asked...

Moray (curious about the "on"-beat boxer note)

I have talked to Pete at SS and he said they are in the process of doing one as well. I have not heard it, but Pete did say it would change the way it sounds. But for 25 hp. I have been thinking about doing the same.
Hope this helps

Cheers everyone.
I think I'll have to hear what difference it makes to the sound before I do anyhting else.

Lee.
It's not so much money to burn as a reluctance to, at the moment anyway, have any electronic mods done to the engine.
My car peaks at 14psi and holds at 13psi, what did you have in mind?

Moray.
Point taken!

I guess it's a downpipe from somewhere first and then see after that.

Thumbs down

Hihihi ... Exhaust Manifold for some HP ???

Wit the amount of money to pay for that thing .... FORGET ABOUT IT.

I have tried ... many types of Performance Manifold and the best is ....ORIGINAL MANIFOLD.... No loss at low torque and high.

WRC Car - 2 type of manifold .. 1. Original 2. Same design but slightly bigger D.

Stick to ur original manifold .... is the best.

Cheers.
