Question

I want to change my exhaust system on my MY-99 to get some more power. I am living in Norway and it is very hard to get parts here. A importer of rally parts can get me a Mongoose system but it will cost me 650£. In a catalog I have I can see Mongoose have a back box with a tail pipe who is called rally(single 3"straight pipe) who looks good(in the catalog). Do anybody have experience with the systems from Mongoose and do the rally backbox look good or not?
What about the STI exhaust system? I can get this system from a rally team for the same price as the Mongoose.

£650 is ridiculous! Surely you can order direct from the UK and have it shipped yourself? I think it only costs about £250.
Post back if you need a supplier, as I don't have any details with me.
Have you tried Scoobysport by the way?

Stef.

Stef,

£650 in Norway is, like, £200 over here.

Should still be able to order direct, but Norwegan customs may still take their wedge.

Is the £650 for the whole system, though, or just the back box?

Scottie

if the customs want so much cash why not get the ferry over and have a few parts fitted? They'll never know what parts you have had fitted

Sorry,it is a full system. Is it still expensive?
Maybe it is a good idea to take the ferry and find a specialist on Subaru instead of waisting money in the most expensiv country in the world.
I am planning to spend around £2000 on the engine. But any suggestion who to contact in England and what I can expect of £2000

Hi there,

2000 UK pounds will get you a fare bit for the engine.... have you considered putting some of that towards handling or brakes ?

The problem with none "grey" scoobs is the strength of the engine internals.... you can only take the engine so far before you need to open it up to strengthen it.

Personally for the 99 I would either fit the Link system (speak to bob rawle) or wait for the PE remap, fit an exhaust (complete system) and air filter.... Chances are you are looking at 1300 pounds there.... You wont get much internal work done for 700 quid. Erm..what can you get for 700 quid ? flowing/porting.. lifters.. conrods... cams... Theres no point in changing cams with the standard turbo, then you have weak conrods, bolts and pistons. You are looking at 3000-4000 for internal work (very approx figure, depending on spec you want)

If you are going internal...wait until you have enough money to do the job properly in one go

Cheers,

J.

Hi firefox
It is always very interesting to read your topics.
I am already in contact with LEDA but is not the brakes on the MY99 strong enough?
I think I will save some more money and just go for a exhaust system and K&N filter this winter.

Hi rune...

The brakes on the 99 are ok for fast road use.... but people find three faults:

The pads (most people change the pads)
The discs (under heavy use cant cope and over heat)
Spongy pedal (fitting braided hoses and different fluid helps)

Cheers,

J.
