Coming into work this morning I noticed a strange 'problem' with the clutch pedal.

When I changed gear quickly the clutch pedal didn't come straight back up - it seamed to stop half down although the clutch did fully engage.

Is this the first signs of the clutch/release bearing going or something more serious?

Try checking that your carpet hasnt slipped in the car!

I know it sounds daft but my 97 car used to do this occasionally when the matt in it slipped.

Mine did exactly the same a few months ago, did it a two or three times in the space of about 10 mins following a period of "hard" driving, been fine ever since....

And no it wasn't the carpet

check the spring on the pedal
its is inside the car.
its helps you to put the pedal down.
if this spring is broken or rusty its sticks

Check the spring holding the clutch lever away from the slave cylinder. I fitted mine wrong and the clutch never came right up until I refitted it properly. Under the TMIC - can't miss it.

 

As previously posted, it's probably the spring under the intercooler..... If it NOT that, then the output shaft bearing located in the flywheel is probably to blame (it was in my case) - around £5 from your local bearing specialist.

 

mine has just started to do only under hard driving tho but i will check the carpet and the spring

 

Hello all, i was told it's the pressure plate on the clutch getting too hot .As a result making the fingers weak and not bringing the release bearing back far enough to move the pedal back up to normal position.
There is also an adjusting rod at the top of the clutch pedal which if adjusted may cure the problem for a short period ONLY.
