Question

For a UK99 Model, with full decat, VTA DV and K&N57i induction kit.

Remap will turn up to be around £780, Boost controller (used safely of course) would be around £50.

Opinions from people who have used both would be very valuable...

Also, any recommended boost controllers? I hear the electronic ones are a bit more expensive, but no real benefit?

Also, would BHP gains be about the same?

TIA

BHP should be more or less the same.
Torque and spool-up will be better with the EBC as you will be able to adjust boost and spool-up in relation with RPM.

Don't forget a decent FCD either, or the knock and lambdalinks required to do it safely Both will provide around the same peak power but the remapped one should be much nicer to drive, and have a fatter torque curve.

I still do most of my OE turbo classic remaps with an MBC; the ECU boost control is not so good on these cars unless you move to a 3 port.

Cheers mate, I understand everything you've said, just don't get the 3-port bit - what is that?

It's the boost control solenoid. Stock is 2 port and pretty poor, a 3 port improves things (with a remap).

I would recommend a GBE boost controller, i had a dawes on the car before i bought the GBE, and the mapper said that the GBE was alot better at controlling the boost...

I'd have to go along with that also, although I've never used the Dawes version to compare. The only downside to the GBE is the lack of hose, and the fact you need 8mm ID to connect to it. But a trip to B&Q, job's a goodun.
