Fuel surge or fuel cut?

Turned into a tight right hander in second gear and floored it into a left hander both of which were quite tight. As i got into the left hander the car just cut boost and felt like the old brick wall syndrome, i only had a quarter of a tank in, now my question is: is this fuel cut because i noticed my boost gauge had hit 1.4 bar in second gear!!! or fuel surge because i am running low on fuel. The car has a dawes set to 1.2 and never normally goes above this level, so how can it hit 1.4???? The knocklink didn't light up any more than normal.

what's 1.4bar in real money PSI?

IIRC fuel cut is 17psi on a AE80x MY99/00 ECU.

I've never had fuel surge/fuel starvation in 4 years of ownership. I do drive fast even below 1/4 tank, but never when the light comes on.

This, IMO, sounds like fuel surge. Although some think its a myth I saw the problem in 3 differant Imprezas last week at Curborough. I get it myself too (see other thread that I just ressurected). The reason for it is that on a right hander, the fuel surges to the left of the tank, leading to the pump (on the other side) running dry. Harvey (I think) said he beat it to an extent by bending the bracket the pump sits on, allowing it to get deeper into the tank. IMO the only way to cure it is to fit some sort of surge tank.

The car is MY99 u.k with tek 2 full decat, i do think its surge but i'm mystified as to how it hit that boost in second gear, normally only peaks at 1.2-1.3 (17-18 psi) in fifth! I thought the dawes stopped boost spikes like that!

Been out, filled up with optimax, everything is fine, took the same series of bends and no problem with surge or boost levels, so back to being a happy chappie!!
