Question

Just an "out of interest" question...

How many sensors are there on the Impreza (MY01 upwards) engine management system and what do they do?

I know these things are incredibly sophisticated, and I'd be interested to know what all of the sensors do and what the engine management system is able to control.

I was thinking of getting one of those secs monitor things, just out of interest (although I have a GX, and not a turbo charged model, so less to see I suppose). Are these secs things worth getting?

Any info would be interesting...

Cheers.

You can see the wiring diagrams etc. for the >MY01 US car here.

http://www.freebmw.net/share/CarsBoatsBikes/Subaru/FSM/

This shows wiring diagrams, sensor types and positions, fault codes etc. The engine management system for the US turbo car is, I believe, pretty similar to the UK version.

Incidentally, the engine management system of the Impreza is pretty crude by European standards (as is the rest of the vehicle's electrical architecture). Seems to work ok though, and has the benefit that you can (relatively) easily modify it.
