On the front driver window pillar of my scoob there is a wee black plastic thing (there is a similar one on the passenger side).

Anyone know what they are and what they are there for ??

They act as guides for the windows when closing.

Take them off, and you windows may not go up after a certain speed (50mph - IIRC)

While we are on the subject of these when I first got my car one of the guys at work sat in it and put his hand over the window pillar to help pull himself out (He is 6ft 7). After I got into the car afterwards and shut the door it wouldn't shut properly as this little piece of plastic was hitting the glass . Basically the idiot as he grabbed the window pillar he had bend this piece of plastic down.

After that it was OK'ish, the door shuts OK but you can feel the top of the window rubbing against this piece of plastic. I have tried to bend it back upwards with little success. A comparison with the passenger sides shows it has moved down by a couple of millimeters or so.

Anybody know how these things attach and if I can just take it off and try and straighten it. I am a little of scared of doing it on the car as I am worried the whole thing will just snap off.

Pull the door seal down, and it will reveal that the window pillar bit is held on with a phillips screw.

Quite straight forward to get to, but make sure you put the seal back correctly, as it can cause a lovely whistling, wind noise!!

Cheers for that I might have to have a go at fixing this at the weekend (Which rougly translated means I will take it off, break it and have to go to the dealers and buy a new one)

I have to say I am not a big fan of pillarless doors anymore, my last car (a rover 220 coupe but don't tell anyone) had them too and once the seals get old they whistled at any speed above 60 MPH. Very Very annoying.

Apparently the door seals are a warranty job!! Worth checking with the dealer if it does start whistling!

I managed to shut my driver's door on top of that wee black thingy, whilst I was doing 60 odd on an A road over the tops on a windy day.

Why?

Because I was too lazy/stupid to pull over and sort out the door not being shut properly while not moving.

Mr Sheen on the rubber keeps my seals intact and noise free. (No circus jokes please.)
