To be honest I thought it was the tother way around with the majority of the torque going to the front on WRX's with only the Type R's having the more rear wheel drive attitude.

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows if is possible to alter the torque split on, for example, a '93 Impreza WRX.

I understand that it is a fixed 50/50 split and I would like to know if there are any after-market items that could alter it to say a 35/65 split with rear bias.

Failing that, does anyone know if you can retro-fit the adjustable diff from the later model.

The reason for this absurdity is that I am a die-hard rear wheel driver but would love to own an Impreza, if only I could get the back-end out under power.

Thanks.

Actually, I think it is as follows:
Under normal conditions it (35:65) (front:rear)

Under slipping the two polar conditions are
(50:50) (The Impreza never gives more than 50% front)

or (5:95) (rear-wheel drive action)

If I am mistaken in any of the above feel free to correct me.
Dimitris.

Manual WRX has a torque split of 50:50 under normal conditions, automatic WRX (i.e. the Wagon) has torque split of 35:65 (bias towards rear) under normal conditions. I don't think the split is fixed (both on the manual and automatic), but to adjust it manually, I think u have to modify the drivetrain to STi R or RA spec.
