Annoying icon appearing and disappearing on System Tray

I am running Windows XP with all the service packs + patches, Norton System Works 2002 and Internet security.
Computer is connected to net through a broadband router.
Periodically, (every 3-4 mins) a small icon will appear and disappear on the system tray, far to fast to click on it , bit it looks like a small white triangle, what the hell is it!
When playing Colin McRae 3, the game will freeze momentarily at least once a stage as the icon appears and disappears on screen.
I have run a virus check, and Ad-Aware 6, and closed down all unnecessary processes, but it is still there!
Any Ideas?
