Hi,

Who can help me to find the best tire size, to fit my new 17 inch alloy wheels !

The Dutch Subaru Impoter said to fit 205/45/17.

Tire shop's advise you 215/45/17.

and some members of the Dutch Subaru Club, have 215/40/17 fitted on there wheels.
One of theme has even 235/40/17.(looks great)

What should I do ??????, and why ?

Does somebody know a good Brand of tire's for 17 inch , out of there own experience ??

greetings from holland

HI Theo,

205/45 ZR17 are the tyre size recommended by Prodrive

I have 215/40 ZR17 Bridgestone S-02 Pole Positions on, although there seems to be athread running where some people are having problems, I am not one of them BTW

There are only 2 tyres available in 205/45 which are the Pirelli P-Zero and a Yokohama tyre, sorry cant remember the name at the mo

There is a much greater variety in 215/40 which is why people fit them, plus its a closer match in rolling diameter to the standard tyres.

Hope this helps

I have fitted 215/40 x 17 Falkens instead of 205/45 x 17 Pirellis or Yoks mainly on cost Approx £65.00+vat as opposed to £110+vat I think that they are OK.

215 is the best width, more rubber contact with the road than 205. 235 will mean folding the lips of of your gards to aviod contact with tyres (especially if lowered)
Falken tyres make the most sence as they wear, stick, and have simillar heat and speed ratings of brands twice the price.
Fitting an adjustable castor and camber kit would help alignment and -camber would help big time in the corners but wear the tyres more than 0 camber. Remmber that your speedo is more than likely calibrated for 15 inch wheels and would likely read 15-20kms wrong.
