importing from Ireland
A friend is going over to ireland to buy a car from a dealer over there.
What sort of expenditure will he be faced with when bringing the car back into the uk....vat/tax/etc
any one any ideas???

New or used ?
I got a used car from Dublin and as long as the VAT/duty has been paid, you are liable for the ferry, flight and temporary registration (£350 total).
The car then has to have a MPH speedo and rear fog light, be MOT'd and registered with UK license plates (no special costs involved beyond speedo dial @ £20).
I got mine from A&F Imports and had no problems -

I have a document on Importing Cars From Ireland. Can't remember which web site I got it from. It contains guidelines, guideprices (not Impreza unfortunately) and dealer contacts etc (Subaru included).

I looked into this a while back from memory all he will have to pay is VAT at 17.5% and his road tax, I vaguely remember of another small charge but I can't remember for what
