Cool

Guys,

I am in a dilema at the moment. I need a back box for my 99 UK Turbo Impreza and dont know which one to go for.

I would like a Scoobysport, but there is a delay in production, and the price for one is comparatively high.

Can anyone recommend for or against any other branded box please. Am concerned that one may ruin the note which the likes of Scoobysport, Blitz etc seem to be able to accentuate!

Any comments welcome and appreciated!!

Cheers

I chose the Scoobysport (Janspeed) box and have been very pleased with it. Not too intrusive, but a nice rumble with the windows down. It's very well made, the only slight downside is that the tail pipe is about 2" too long for my liking.

Is there a difference between the Janspeed single exit stainless back box and the scoobysport one?

Currently running a Magnex 6" 4" oval with de-cat centre and blitz stainless. Very nice sound. Especially at speed when you can hear the air whooshing in via the air filter and the rumble of the back box.
Also the blokes at work appreciate the sound of the flat 4 engine when idling.

Before having the Firestorm on the wagon, i had a MAgnex 6x4.

Really impressed with it, nice noise, not too loud (if thats an issue), was also really well built.

Not the dearest of boxes either.

But if you're after a loud one...i've just went for the full TSL system and downpipe to go with the Firestorm...lovely !

The scoobysport pipe looks the biz for sure. I just wasnt sure if the janspeed branded one was identical to the scoobysport one.

I just wander if the extra £100 is justified on the scoobysport over the magnex?

Have you considered speaking to Hayward and Scott? There's not a great deal of difference between the Janspeed and H&S silencer. Click here for a recent post on them. H&S used to be the exhaust manufacturer of Scoobysport exhausts. For some reason, Janspeed now make them for Scoobysport. I've literally received one this week (being fitted on Monday ) and it's mint, well impressed.

Regards,

Ade.

Ally - we supply the Hayward and Scott exhausts and the quality is excellent (once we've finished with them, they're even better)

Mail me for a quote M8

I would be keEn to hear other systems but dont want something that is a real pain when you want a canny 60mph run out the road. I had a powerflow system on a previous car and while it sounded good when you gunned it and were in the mood for it, the drone was a nuisance otherwise.

Never heard of BHP delevelopments mate although I have seen a couple of Scoobs in Aberdeen with BHP delvelopments stickers in the WRX style in place of whatever previosly existed there.

Am in Norway just now. Perhaps you can let me hear a car with this box when I get back? Is it the same as the current scoobysport?

Got a Magnex 6x4 and resonated centre on my MY00. Sounds fantastic, really accentuates the flat 4 sound.

And cheap as chips too...got both sections for £150 second-hand

From what I gather there cant be a bad one as no-one has complained at all about their exhausts!!

At the mo my car is bog standard (MY 99 Turbo Impreza). Will need to do a spot of lugging in to other Scoobs with exhausts.

I think i will avoid the ones you can stick your head into look and see if you have cleaned it properly!!

I am thinking toward a Magnex 3.5 back box and cat replacement as Magnex are good and the two are cheaper than the Scoobysport box alone.....

If only there was a place in Aberdeen or area that could let me hear the difference!!!!

Well, I'm currently running Infinitys' old Hayward and Scott (used to make Scoobysports' exhaust for them) backbox and centre section and he is running my old Blitz system.

Best thing to do is come to the monthly meet we Aberdonians have at the OLD MILL INN on th first Tuesday of the month.

Fitted my Hayward & Scott downpipe and silencer yesterday. Oh my God. What an amazing sound! It's SOOOOOOO adictive! It's not massively loud, but it doesn't half emphasise the flat four burble. What a purchase. Hayward & Scott, respect to you

Regards,

Ade.

Can I ask what all you guys do about warranties?

Surely removing cats throws any warranty right out the window??..!!!!

In theory, there shouldn't be any problem, as long as you have the centre cat (as I do). But I've kept both the original downpipe and silencer, just in case

Full ScoobySport (Janspeed made!) system on my '02 WRX from the turbo back dropping both CAT's.

Excellent build quality, fantastic looks and the sound is great. Not to loud when driving normally but boy, when you floor it!

Not intrusive inside the car but noticibly louder than the standard sytsem but, mind you so is a mouse farting!

Sounds like just like an Impreza should sound.

I've got one of the original Scoobysport backboxes (made by H&S) bought 2nd hand off here and it sounds great without being intrusive on long journeys and the tailpipe diameter isn't too Max Powerish. I've just added a Magnex de-cat centre and the quality/fit/finish is very impressive.
