Question

Can someone tell me what the 2 other pulleys are attached too on the alternator belt (3rd one being the alternator itself)?

I assume it's job is just to turn the alternator keeping the battery topped-up whilst the car engine is running?

Crankshaft pulley.. centre bottom..

Left Hand side Power steering pump..

If you have another belt from crank to the right then aircon pump..

David,

I take it there's no markings or anything involved. Just as long as the belt is on each pulley correctlty and tension to between 45 & 90 degrees it's fine?

Only reason I ask is I had the alternator off last night and just wanted to check I've not missed something important.

Check tensioner is bolted up properly..

Unhappy

aye, I saw that the other day. Your either a brave man or know what your doin. Hopefully you'll never have to do that again.

Any ideas what caused it? was it the timing belt being out of alignment?

I reckon its a combination of the timing out & the fact the ECU had a Jap aftermarket chip which up'd the boost and was mapped to 100RON+, over time the car's been det/knock and I've not known, then BANG.

It won't happen again, I'll be gauged to the max & uprated metal to make sure it doesn't go BANG in my lifetime.
