Any1 got thoughts on which one to fit, any differences, benefits etc.

 

Helix are good for 350 ibs ft torque, & are a substantial clutch. Typically will be £100 or so cheaper than the AP Organic.

If you are not running over or near to this figure then stick with the Helix clutch.

If over this then go for an AP Clutch

 

Car currently kicks out around 300bhp

Consider a new Subaru MY99- centre disc under your existing cover. £88 and it works for me

So don't spend daft money on the AP/Helix kit & keep the plate but renew the disk & release bearing.

have you some how modified the clamping force or anything?.

as you know I had clutch slip issues with the TOTB map, since knocking the power/torque back it seems happy again, so much so that I am in no rush to change the clutch , preferring to just run the car "as is" for the moment,hopefully to save the gearbox a little longer.

perhaps the RA has a better cover as standard, should you not have a 225mm plate so by sticking a 230mm under it , could this be changing anything?

to how the **** your getting away with it with your grunt and sticky tyres.

Perhaps just having a new (thicker) plate is enough to increase the clamping pressure ? From what I could establish, my std cover (DK) had an identical spring in it to the AP and the LP clutches.
Maybe your clutch is just worn out ? It's not like it's had an easy life
JB's std clutch was fine with 350+ power/torque

,most of the time both feet are pushing the loud pedal together .

I have never had a slip issue until the stronger map was done but perhaps the clutch is thinner. I suppose jb's never saw as much abuse as mine at the track days but it had done twice the road mileage with more power.I just took it for granted I had gone over the torque limit of my clutch given it has been fine since.

I know you had the lateral one slipping occasionally, how did the AP work?.I would rather fit and forget than go the chancer route

 

did you measure the plate material between the three?

I have jb's standard clutch here if there are any numbers on it that could confirm it is different/same as your RA one.

 

I didn't measure the plate thickness. I could slip the AP too, I'm talking brutal starts here and on a fairly new clutch (under 1000 miles) To be fair to the Lateral one, when I removed it, it was barely fully run in ie there was still 10% of the plate had never touched the cover/flywheel. AP would be the same.
The std Subaru plate was fitted about 1 week before TOTB and was similar, it would struggle slightly with a few hard launches in a row as it got really hot.

 

My g/f was forever getting told off for left foot resting and the damage was 100% blamed in her direction, funny thing about my car was not many full bore starts like you guys

I will have to consider my options, Mark@Lateral doesn't have any clutches in stock just now plus he has no standard forged piston either

I've got a Helix organic on mine. It is pleasant to use with a smooth take up and the pedal pressure is not too strong. Once it is engaged it grips absolutely solidly.

Hi trance, my car is occasionally in c/auld but mine doesn't have those Lexus rear lights. I'm changing the flywheel as to lighten the crank torque required for turning.

What sort of prices are you paying for the clutch and flyheel if you don't mind me asking??

 

£750 for clutch, flywheel & bearings from Lateral Performance. Don't know what make etc
