Will a standard STI BB and Centre fit on a 3" H&S Decat DP?

From what I can tell the 3" part will get covered by the standard centre. It's just that the original DP's end had fitted in the original centre in a kind of a ball joint with 2 spring bolts connecting the two.
Do I need this flexibility? Can I firmly join the 2 together?
