Centre section or downpipe?

I have fitted to my W reg classic the Ninja backbox which i am very pleased with.
Now i would like to:
1. Gain more power and remove one of the Cats. Should i replace the downpipe with a de-cat or the centre de-cat?
2. I also want it to pass the MOT with no hassle.
3. Should i go for a free flow sports cat in the center section and a de-cat downpipe?
4. I would like any replacement downpipe to make a nice sound...i don't mind it being noisey as long as it sounds like a Scoob.
5. Can i replace the downpipe without replacing the centre section until a later date?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

downpipe m8, i gota magnex,sounds great!u should b able 2 use ur cente and the added bonus of still passin mot!mark

Looks like i will replace the downpipe.
Is the magnex open necked and does it fit easily onto the Classic?

Just got magnew rear and centre,then week later added front pipe,the difference was amazing when the front was added,if i was going for parts,then knowing what i know now i would go front middle and pass mot,but then saying that adding the rear box if a great sound.

sorry to break it to you but there is ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEE that you will pass your MOT (legally) with just the centre cat remaining and a decat downpipe. You would need to beast the car right beforehand and get the cat very hot in order to stand a chance, and even then most wouldn't pass emissions tests.

Having said that I totally agree with the other guys that you'll get more driving and aural pleasure out of changing the downpipe, instead of the centre section.

It's going to cost you more but you could always try what I did - get a centre decat, and a proper high-flow sportscat downpipe. My downpipe claims to flow as freely as a decat, but have no problems at MOT time. There are a handful of companies that do them, I went to TSL.

The high flow sports cat sounds the sensible option even if it's more expensive. Although i'm told that to remove a decat downpipe and replace with a Catted one at MOT time is time consuming and expensive. Therefore, a sports Cat may actually make economic sense in the long run.
I presume it sounds as good as a fully decatted downpipe?

I notice magnex and tsl get a mention further up the board.

....not sure if my experience is typical - but I found that I actually had more pops and bangs with just the backbox (GrpN) and decat centre section....
when I additionally replaced the downpipe ( with highflow sportscat) I got loads more power and drivability, but the accompanying sounds (though just as loud) seemed to smooth out - fewer pops than before

still sounds A-OK though

I have got a decat downpipe and free flow sports cat in the centre section. It passes the MOT extremely easily, the figures are better than most other cars. Does need to have the Lambda sensor in good condition though. MY94 STI with standard ECU and Dawes.
