dawes afr blue light on and car running rich

all day today the blue light has been on on my dawes afr meter and the car is using a lot of fuel and running rich , when driving car the blue light stays on and the other lights will only come on after i have floored it and let the throttle off if car idles it still stays on ,is my lambda sensor up the creek or is it something else ,
any help greatly recieved

Question

anyone got any suggestions , the blue light comes on as soon as the ignition is switched on.
john can you tell me what you mean by "probably"

Well it is not running closed loop lambda control. The most likely (but not only) reason is the lambda sensor. Other sensor errors or problems could lead to an overfuelling situation, and the closed loop lambda control can only correct it in a +-25% range.

Sometimes lambda sensors vary with various voltages when they fail, of course you are reading from the lambda sensor, bit of a chicken and egg situation without full ECU diagnostics in front of you to be sure.

I sometimes get the AFR showing constant blue when the car is not up to full temperature, which you would expect. It usually goes out after a couple of miles though.

the blue light is on as soon as i switch the ignition on and now the car is starting to run rather sluggish

If you Lambda has failed and feeding duff results back to the ECU ans you end up running rich, it will foul your plugs in no time.

Your sluggish perfromance may be due to the plugs now being very black. Pop the front o/s one out (the easiest) and have a look.
