Following advice I recently changed back to original airbox with Green filter from Blitz cone on my Sti 3. Following a trip to PE for rolling road tune, I had been right to change it. They detected MAF sensor failure and boost failure on ECU check. Turned out that MAF sensor was coated in crap and this had effected boost - engine was also running very lean as a result! Now I feel like I have a new car - boost had dipped to only 0.5 bar - now peaking at 1.1 bar! Beware - I have a Knocklink fitted now so I don't make the same mistake!

We had a "Blitz attack" in one our group's cars too. Guy put in the panel version, was wrapped with the flow, gushing with praise, a few of us said "you'll be sorry" (there'd been some failures attributed to the SUS filters). Thankfully the engine did not go, but the MAF was toast in 2 weeks (this was on a car with "glass" 99/00 style hot film job).

Idle went all over the joint, car acted wierd, and he started to get good fuel economy (cue panic run to the dealer). When the dealer mechanics saw the filter, they just shook their heads.

Then again I know of a guy who's had one for ages, no probs either. Go figure...

Guess you are right - loads of people use them without problems - just glad I made then change when I did - I didn't even think I could be running lean because the boost was down so much! PE told me I could have detted at any moment!
