screen resolution

Have really crappy screen res on my laptop. 16 colours and 600 x 800 pixels.

No option to change in Control Panel to higher res

Any idea how I can improve the quality of the display ?

jods, sound like you need graphics drivers for it.

try searching on the web
or do you have the original system disk(s) for it.
