I can't get my recently rebuilt work Laptop to see my home PC.

It used to work prior to rebuild. Both systems are running XP Pro.

I can ping and see the home PC using it's IP address, however if I double click the home computer to see the shares available I get a message that it's not accessible

"The user name could not be found"

I'm logged onto my work laptop using my work ID and domain, and my home pc just using my local logon ID.

I cannot have the same logon ID on both computers.

I'm sure I've done this before but can't remember how!

can anyone suggest how I fix this?

cheers,

greg

Points raised here should also apply to your setup.

yes I read that thread but it says:

. Create a user account on each machine with the username/password of the other machine

So how does that work when one machine is in a domain and the other is just in a local workgroup?
