Potato related jokes aside....

I have heard horror stories about people chipping their cars and it knocking out number three piston. Is this a common problem? I was thinking of getting this done to my car, is it a good idea?

My car is a '94 UK Turbo and has a turbo back de catted Trust exhaust system, a pipercross cone filter and a bailey dump valve.

For the record I was thinking about getting it remapped on a rolling road not an off the shelf superchip program.

Can anyone reccomend a good place to get this done and a rough cost?

Teks are no go for MY94

 

Having a MY96 UK Turbo I'm in a simular position, not being able to use Tek3.
I was considering ScoobyECU , but don't know if I can be asred.

Superchips is iffy, yes. It just raises boost (& raises/removes) the protective 'fuel cut' without doing anything with the timing, etc.
Getting the car mapped properly is totally different. If an individual map for the car, it should increase both performance and reliability if done by a reputable company (and not on the rollers! They screw up fuelling...).
ScoobyECU I think is the one to go for; at least, it's ridiculously good value, & I haven't heard one bad thing/experience about it yet Other options (Link, etc.) are far more expensive as they involve replacing the entire ECU rather than playing with what's already there (and perfectly good in the first place).

 

Has anyone fitted one of these?? Got a UK97 but wouldn't mind knowing if these are worth it.

What are those Scoobyecu's then? How do they work? Also how much and what potential gains do you get?

EcuTek WONT work .. so ScoobyECU is the best bet.
its a plug in adapter that goes inside the ECU & replaces the standard MAP's that the car uses for fueling, Boost etc. so you retain all the safety of the ECU (unlike superchips etc).
the maps were developed by Scott.T, Pavlo & David Wallis (probably a few more ...) & raise the boost, change the fueling & advance & basicly give you some more power - but safely!
Dont think David has any boards left at the moment & he's an incredible busy man due to TOTB (u'd better be there David!!) but I'd email him & he should be able to put you on the list for a board.

Ive got a Sperchips chip for sale if anyone is interested, uprgraded to an (expensive) APEXi replacement ECU.

 

If this helps mailed Power Engineering regarding their ECU remap for a UK97 Turbo. Told them I'm running 249bhp but wanted slightly more power and torque.

They've told me to bring it down to them for a session on the rolling road. Would be looking at 270bhp and a damn sight more torque when they've finished. £650 plus VAT is the damage.

What do you think people. The trip from West Yorks to Middlesex puts me off anyway.
