Took i/c off to fit knocklink sensor the other week, and there seemed a lot of oil sitting in the inlet hose. This is after only about 3,000 miles. Should I be worried (car is MY00 and has only done 25k)

Not really unexpected. Blow by oil mist is recirculated back into the intake and likes to collect. Emissions regs do not allow for HC rich oil mist to be VTA.

Just changed my hoses yesterday, and noticed the same, but wasnt concerned

However on the original Y pipe, I was surprised to see quite a collection of Oil on the underside, and over the jubilee clips, so its possible some has been leaking out from somewhere

What was interesting was that there was no oil deposits on the engine below, unless that got burnt off

I changed the downpipe a few weeks ago, and this resulted in the intercooler being removed, and it is possible that the oil am eout then

I do remember when I first went for a drive there was quite a bit of smoke coming from the scoop, and as it wore off, I took it that this was the WD40 being burnt off, but I guess it could have been the oil on the engine

Car is running fine tho

 

I noticed some oil on my inlet when I fitted my knocklink a few weeks ago. My car's 4yrs old with 50K on the clock and the oil wasn't black and there was only a thin layer that I could just wipe away with a cloth.

WD40 stinks to high-heaven when it burns off; you should have noticed the smell. I certainly did notice some excess smoke (but more the smell) when the WD40 burned off my downpipe after I used it on the bolts.

Yeah it did stink too, not a very pleasant experience, whilst I was sat at the traffic lights, in 30 degrees with no Air Con & windows down, and smoke & stench pouring out my scoop

Thankfully it settled down after a few short blasts, then a 60 mile motorway trip
