Hi All,

I would really like to know if it is ever possible to get the timing marks on all wheels to match up with the timing marks....

I have just mounted a new belt on my my99,and itīs like itīs a half touth wrong,

The car canīt drive at all,it sputters wild when you try to put a little load on it......Is it the timing belt thatīs not fitted right????

When i had to remove the wheel on the crankshaft,with a rubberhammer i acedently hit on the cranksensor and broke some of the plastic,can this course me this trooble.....

If i have the car at idle(really bad idle with lots of unburned fuel) and remowe the cranksensor the car just dies(so it might still work).

When the car was started it sounded fine,(just rewing it)but when i took it on a small run the problem started

Did you turn the engine one complete revolution by hand before fitting the covers/starting it?

I not check the marks again as there will be some slack in the belt after setting the maks up and fitting the belt.

But i have removed the covers,and it look alright..
Just that the leftside looks to be a half touth wrong....

Can it not be the cranksensor?(or will the car not start if itīs broken).

Car wouldn,t start if crank sensor is broken. Did u have crank in right position before pulling old belt off.Did u have all Marks on cam pulleys in line

ie top one at 6 oclock, bottom one at 12 oclock.

Suggest you start again mt8 from scratch but left hand cam pulleys turn back one notch before you fit belt, then remove pin in tensioner and it should pull left pulleys timing marks into line.

 

Half a tooth may as well be 2 tooths as unless its SPOT on its u/s. Check /check and double check.

I had the engine completly apart,as i was changing the shortblock.

There are marks on the timingbelt,so when they fit the marks on the wheels it should fit right?

I will try from scratch again tonight

If itīs not the timingbelt what can it be??

Were is the water temp sensor located?
Perhaps it there is something wrong with that,becourse itīs getting way to much fuel.

water temp sensors are mounted on the frontwards side of the water crosspipe that sits underneath the manifold. IIRC, there are two, one for the dashboard meter, one for the ecu.

I thought that i might have forgotten to move it over from the old shortblock

you could have knocked one of the small lugs off the toothed crank pulley

 

I will have a look at it tonight,
The wheel was one that was on the engine,i will see if there is a diff to my oe wheel,

You did put the camshaft back in the right way round didn't you?
I know 2 people that have put the exhaust shaft at the top

I would think it's the belt though!

 

With regards to being half a tooth out when you fitted the new belt, i found exactly the same thing on mine,MY00. One of the pulleys i forget which now was half a tooth out. However i noted the marks before i took off the old belt and found the same thing, that too was half a tooth out.
It ran fine when i finally started it after checking by turning over by hand many times.

Hmm,
I have now spend the hole evening trying to find out what the problem is and i still havend find out whatīs wrong.

I have the belt on as iīm sure it has to be,I have had the rokercover of on both sides,as mayby i had put the camshaft the wrong way,but no i looks fine.

I tryed to put in a old program for my linkecu,maybe something was wrong(it has been without battery for 14days)...Still no go

And at the of this day,the car will not start at all.
Itīs like it was fine for the first 2min or so yesterday,and then it just got worse for every time i have cranked the car.

My next try tommorow will be to put in the OE ecu to see if there is any foult code it comes up with(i know the MAF will as itīs not there)
Will the standard ECU see if the cranksensor or camsensor is not working when i just put on igintions on???

Dyney , what do you thing is wrong with the belt(it+īs the same part number as the old one

OK you have checked that the camshaft on th bottom has "EX" on it and the top one has "IN"

The pulley at the top next to the battery (Inlet shaft) Check it has "IN" on it and there are no magnets missing from the back of it (this is what the camshaft sensor sees as the shaft rotates).

You didn't forget to put the buckets in? (under the Camshafts).
I know smaeone who in the rush to put the engine back together forgot these, though I (I mean he) did remember as he put the rocker cover back on #

I'll have a word with a mate and see what we can come up with

I have just bored a new cranksensor from my Subaru dealer,so tonight i will see if that helps!!

Can the magnets on the camshaftwheel fall of???

Don't kow if the magnets can fall off, depends how hard you hit it I supose

Yes,

The car is now driving

The problem was as simple as,i did not mount the fuelpurge cannister and that coursed the car to run extremly rich!!!

Then the plugs was covered in fuel and that coursed the problem..

Meaning that it had worked from the begining if only i had mounted the cannister......Now iīm a expert in mounting the timingbelt

ME too, done both head gaskets in the last few weeks so had the belt off a fair few times

Denmark glad to see you sorted your problem out, as regards to your timimg i pressume you left it were it was with one of the cam pullies being half a tooth out, if so how well is your car running.
Its just that after checking my timing it seem the exactly the same to yours half a tooth out. It will just save me time trying to re-adjust mine to solve my own problems with my car.

It has to be a half tooth out on the cam,where the camsensor is!!!.

There is aligment marks on a new belt and that just have to be in the right position.
