Seen reference on a number of occasions to the problem with some MY99/P1 gearboxes of the car dropping out of 5th, and the mod that's supposed to cure it.

Question is, does anyone know exactly what the nature of this mod/fix is? According to some it's simply a case of re-applying/tightening a retaining nut, to others it's a linkage adjustment, to others it's a new part. Anyone know the official IM/dealer policy?

the bullitin says to replace 5th gear hub, spring washer, and nut. you can get away with just tightening it up and restaking the nut for costs and quickness but it's advisable to replace the nut and washer at least. you also have to check the casing because if it has been loose for a while the nut can work backwards and cut a groove in the plastic oil guide that feed oil to 5th gear then it seizes and either won't come out or wont go in.
