89 Decibels at 4000rpm rings a bell. The Haward & Scott (Scoobysport) back box is within the legal limits, I think wouldn’t have thought the Blitz is.

What exhaust have you got mate

Ian

Is there a legal noise limit for the road.

After reading several post over the last few months about noisy exhausts it seems there is no limit but it is down to the discretion of the police officer at the time.

Is this correct, I put a noise metre on my car and it came out at about 88DB's.

Does anyone actually know the correct noise levels.

Arron.

Im sure i read somehwere it was 85 or 89db.

88db, dont even worry mate

Ive had cops sitting behind me with my Blitz (which is bloody loud) and havent said anything.

Only got stopped by the cops a couple of days agao for my number plate. They commented on the exhaust being loud. When i asked what was the db limit. They said its not the db limit, its the amount of emissions it produces.

Then later they said there was a db limit.

Basically they didnt know. but im sure its 85db or 89db

Not as yet though it is down to the Officers discretion, of course I did have a 115 db exhaust and had to remove it after a neigbour reported me.

I have heard various officers talk about noise limits in the future and taking a wild guess would imagine they would be set near to or around bike limits which are currently 80db.

However I believe this would only apply to new cars on the market, though aftermarket fitting from then on would have to comply with legislation.

Some car makers such as Ferrari, Porsche, Fiat and ALfa have devised a system with solenoids that keep it quite round town though open the things up and the solenoid opens allowing full bark of the engine........

My type R - full decat/tsl downpipe/mid with scoobysport back box was measured at 100db @ Silverstone

Now, I wonder how many DB's I would have clocked with my firestorm on (way way louder than the scoobysport box) ??

I also kept revs below 6000rpm to achieve that figure.

Think I read on here somewhere the other day that some scoobs have the output for a similar solenoid doobrey as the ferrari - although it is not connected to anything?

In Oz the db max is 90. And they check too. Cops pull cars over, take them to a Mobile EPA truck and have them tested with a microphone. Been happening there for over 10 years now. The thing is in OZ they don't do emmisions tests, only noise tests.

Never had this problem in Greece. And I've never seen any getting pulled over for checks. They do check pollution emmissions here though, but only at MOT time.

Cheers,

George.
