Having read alot discussions on here regarding Knocklinks, I am confused as to whether to get one or not for my my93 wrx import???.

Some people regard them as a must for all subaru owners and others dont bother with them, my confusion became worse when i spoke to afew subaru specialists, alot of them told me they are not required as the impreza already has one fitted, and if the engine is gonna go then it will anyway, and afew told me i should poss get one, but were they just trying to sell me one ??

Can anyone possibly give me any advise/opinions on this matter ....

If you plan to modify your MY93 then a knocklink is a must. I have one on MY96 as it now is modified. Yes the car has one on it standard but it is also good to have an independant visible display so when DET does occur something can be done to rectify it before any significant damage is done

I saw an engine from an Sti4 at the weekend that had destroyed itself and on close inspection it had suffered from Det. The bottom end casings were a right off and so was one of the heads and all the exhaust valves. It looked a very very expensive repair or a second hand engine required.

I would say make sure that if you are running a Jap spec import that it is mapped for UK fuel, or that Octane boost is used all of the time.

But nothing wrong with having a second opinion by fitting an independant Knock link.
