Could someone please explain what a knock-link is ...????

The sensor is a tiny microphone type thing which bolts to the car's block, and picks up any noise given out by detonation, (aka det, knock, pinking etc), which can be the death of performance engines.
The display, (on mine at least) consists of a line of LED's which light up progressively to tell you if the car is detting, and how much. If it's a lot, take your foot off, and if it does it frequently, get it seen to/remapped/use octane booster etc.
