Gary

We do a full de-cat system for your car, but the STi8 does not have a cat in the up pipe (pipe just before the turbo).

Pete,

Thanks for your comment.

Tell me something please? I believe the STI8 has three CAT's. With the fitement of my Trust exhaust from the downpipe back two of these Cat's have gone. I am left with one and im led to believe this has something to do with the turbo??? Does this make any sense to you? and if it does do you do a de-cat replacement pipe for this Cat???

Your comments would be appreciated

MY03's only have 2 cats, downpipe and mid section.

I suspect your car has had the mid section replaced leaving the very restrictive downpipe cat in place.

A sports cat or a de-cat downpipe is what your require, sports cat will keep you legal and obviously the de-cat won't.

Up-pipe is worth doing while your car is in the workshop, about 2-3 hours labour.

Your decision really, Pete has plenty of experience on de-cats and would be the only person I would trust on my car in the south.

De-cat and re-map would be my preference, unfortunately due to my high mileage I have to stick with Prodrive mods to keep my warranty intact, but seeing as yours is already vaped then you have nothing to lose.

01 WRX has a cat in the up-pipe, new shape doesn't.
UK STi's always had 2 cats.

Most dealers are full of crap, they rarely venture into anything more technical than an oil/filter change with a cambelt being a major job, never trust them unless you are 100% confident.

Your dealer doesn't sound like one of the trusted ones.

Big Goon!

I am also planning a full decat and a ECUTEK remap for my STI8 hopfully done by Pete Croney.

You mentioned the restrictor needs to be modified, why and how does it need to be modified when decatting and remapping the ECU?

It stops the car from getting boost spikes, a well documented issue on de-cat STi's, Pete is well aware of this problem and will no doubt supply the correct restrictor as part of your kit.

Gary,

The Euro and UK STi is one and the same. The WRX 01/02 (not sure about the 03) has 3 cats but the UK/EU STi 02 had only 2 - one in the downpipe and one in the front centre section. The 01/02 WRX has one also in the up-pipe which the STi does not.

You would expect your dealer to know this?!

Matt

Gary

All 03 turbos (STi and WRX) have only two cats. No Sti has ever had a cat in the up pipe.

If your dealer will put his money where his mouth is, you are on a dead cert winner

The restrictor doesn't need changing if we map it at the same time, as we completely re-write and re-scale the boost control tables.

Without a map, it will need a different restrictor as soon as the doanpipe is changed.

If your getting your car remapped at the same time as your decat then you should not need another restrictor.
You only need it when modifing the exhaust only.
