I believe the newer Samco inlet hose has been strengthened to reduce the collapsing at high revs.

I always thought that if there is enough vacuum to suck the hose shut there must be a lot of restriction in the filter.

Hello,

Some thread ago, I mentioned the dropping boost at high revs. The problem was the samco inlet hose that collapse at that rpm. Because my original is damaged, i need an aftermarket one. So i need some advice:
Shall i take the inlet hose from MRT?? Someone experiment this one> WIll this suck together like the samco??
Is there another option? I want to keep the steering reservoir at that original place.

Maybe you can strenghten the inner side of the tube with metal rings.
I know it sounds a bit weird but a friend of me has an extreme tuned audi TT and he also had that problem of collapsing on high revs. They cured it with a maze-like tube and his problem was over.

Mike,

I had the same problem a while back.
Got to 5k revs then the boost dropped to almost nothing and the car lost a lot of power.
Samco inlet fitted at the time, and it was colapsing.

But, it can be fixed I think?

It colapses at the bend just before the turbo's mouth.
The way I see it, is that samco may be slightly too long, and when fitted, the extra length puts extra and unessesary pressure on the sides, just at the bend.



Andy cut about 5mm off the the edge of the samco at the turbo mout end.....



and it stopped it from colapsing.

Not sure if thats any help, would be a shame though if you've bought it new and can't use it.

I have one of those..but I have no problem with collapsing.
TD05(FE),Headers,Fmic and overboosting @high revs +1.4Bar, so no problem here...with that...

I've only heard of the Samco inlet pipe collapsing on two cars owned by members on this board.

Haven't heard of any issues with MRT, BPM or Sti variants except on John Banks car, but then again, his car is a different ball game to most folks !

Cutting the samco inlet hose is no option. I have no spare hose left, it fit just well. I though it collaps in the middle. You can push the hose together with you fingers without mcuh power.
What i know are the new hoses of Samco better was then the old one.
Do I have to lift up the manifold to put the original back?

Another happy SAMCO user, HKS RS kit, FE TD05, and 1.5 bar midrange, 1.4-ish around 5500 - no issues.

I thought the Samco has only ever collapsed on people running the standard airbox?

BPM/MRT one is made by Avo in Oz.

I used the MRT inlet pipe. The chap who fitted mine, said it was a better quality, better fitting and better designed pipe when compared to the Samco alternative!

No issues with it collapsing either.

MY99 UK with PE1818 turbo, APS FMIC, APS cold air kit and Link, running 1.3 bar making 354bhp @ PE!

Fist i have a standard filterbox, now I fitted a Apexi induction kit or a HKS induction kit. The different of both is that the HKS you can hear the turbo spinning sound, and that make me crazy. Now putting the Apexi the sound is gone. But is that so that the HKS have a better/greater airflow.

Hi

I am using the SAMCO Inlet hose for a MY01 in my MY99 in conjunction with a big APS SR30 17.5 turbocharge.

Until now I did'nt had have any problems concerning collapsing of the hose.

But fitting is a lot of work ...

I was told that samco do a newer hose which is supposed to fix the collapsing problems.

Samco have rectified the condition that caused the earlier hoses to collapse by stiffening up the area causing the problem which was in front of the turbo inlet.
