I want to confirm the engine number of my STi8 - but can't see anything obviously 'engine numbery' anywhere under the bonnet.

Have searched far and wide, in daylight with a torch - though as everything is so shoe-horned in there, I can't see much.

Is it actually recorded elsewhere on the car, on a sticker or something, or shown in a pretty accesible place that I'm missing...???

engine number is on the right rear of the engine block on a flat area next to the gearbox bellhousing just behind the intercooler. Easiest way to see it is go the the passenger front wing and look at the area where the gearbox and engine mate just behind the intercooler, you will see a flat machined area with numbers stamped into it.

Does B786228 sound reasonable (it's not that, but it's that format - ie PIC X999999)????????????
