I have a mate wanting to change up to either a version 6 classic STI or version 7/8 new shape STI.

He knows the price differences but wants to know the general feedback on overall ownership.

Performance differences
Handling
Brakes
suspension
Ride comfort
long hauls and short
Gear box ETC ETC

As I say general ownership from day to day on either a standard car or modded.
I drive an STI 7 Prodrive and am therefore a bit bias.

I've got a sti8, and so far think it's great.
Ride isn't to harsh, handes well, the gearbox is good and having the sixth gear makes it pretty good for long distances. This is my first Scoob so I can't really compare it to any other versions but I don't think he'd be disapointed.

I recently bought an MY02 STI7 Prodrive and would say exactly the same as 'New To Scoob'

Nick they're fun aren't they mine'll be even better once I finish getting it run in. Would have had one before now but the wife wan't me to get a new car so it had a warranty 'in other words so I can't go ripping it to bits in the garage' and she wasn't to keen on the MY02 looks wise even when I offered to swap the lights for UK300 ones. Only downside is she has claimed it this week and I've been left with her Clio

New to Scoob,
Sounds just like my house hold, me with my STI 7 and my wife with her Clio.

As I said I am a bit bias as I have the 7, I think he will go for a version 6 as he likes the harshness and raw pace of the car.

When will he learn.

I got a STI8 and the missis has a 172 clio so the same here too.

Personally again I am biased but i prefer the look of the STI8. Lights are much nicer looking i feel.

Whichever you wont be disappointed.
