Best way to get pops and bangs
I've got a fully de-catted MY01 and was wondering what id the best way to force it to pop and bang? My DV is still standard by the way, but I am lending a VTA for a track day soon

Get the engine really warm, then just switch off the ignition for a few seconds and back on again as you drive down the road in gear. This can give spectacular bangs and may even blow your exhaust. Pretty stupid thing to do but whatever turns you on. Suggest you only turn the key back one click. More than this and the steering lock comes on, there will be another bang as you hit whatever is in your path and a loud rip as you fill your pants.
Enjoy your sound effects.

Or!
You can get a tek3, get Pat to map it, then ask for pops and bangs
he will then pull the timing out on the run down and then, hey presto!
all you need to do then is gently touch the throttle for a whole load of fireworks in the exhaust
it especially works well with a loud exhaust

Get your self a decent blow off valve preferbley one that you can change the settings on. ho and also get rid of those cats it makes a big differance, just one thing keep and eye on the flames mine been known to blow some pretty long ones out when gearing down.
Harvey,
while your suggestion would work extremely well on a carburetted car, on a Turbocharged Impreza, the moment the power is removed from the ECU, the injectors will cease firing and no more fuel will be delivered, so the exhaust will not fill up with a good air/fuel mix. There will, of course, be some residual fuel from where the manifold has been wetted, so you may still get a small pop, but not in the same order of magnitude as a carburetted engine.
With regard to the EcuTek map tweak, watch this space, I have a request in the ToDo list @ EcuTek which will be "interesting" to say the least
Some cars just like to pop and bang, some don't, but generally stainless steel exhaust system do seem to produce lovely pops
Cheers,
Pat.

Anti-lag ahhh my next motor will have that! It's the REAL way to do it. :-)
Overfuelling is ok in small doses. My WRX Version 6 used to love being bounced of the rev limiter, it spat out flames and popped wonderfully! That was with SS BB and DP.
