I think this sound would be more appropriate (279K mp3)

Right click, save target as...

Cool

You could record the sound a ferrari makes, put it on a digital loop by PC, download to CD and play it really load in your scooby with all windows down.

You did ask......

Depending on which Ferrari you want to sound like you are short of either two, four or even eight cylinders for a start. Then there is the problem of the Ferrari being a V block with equal length exhausts as opposed to a flat four (pun intended) with unequal headers.
The closest you are likely to get is fitting equal length headers (as opposed to just any tubular ones) at which point it might sound something like my GSX1100-R.
Of course you could enlist the help of Pat, especially if you want to fit a six cylinder engine.
I think Jonny's suggestion has most merit as it is quick, simple and there is no initial outlay.

There is an inherent problem with the flat four, regarding turbocharged exhaust manifold design. The basic design of a boxer 4 cylinder requires that it fires one bank then the other... regardless of what you do with the cam lobes, you canot get it fire left-right-left-right, you'de need to change the crank and lose the primary balance of the engine, the thing would try to shake itself to bits.... so basically you're stuck with a left-left-right-right firing sequence, which means you can't get even pulses into a turbo unless you take a pipe from each bank.

It is possible to make an equal length manifold, but it does result in slightly delayed spool, if one is to maintain the primary tube diameter... the only way to recover the spool is to run smaller diameter primaries. FWIW, I used to run an equal length 4-2-1 manifold with a TD05H-18G hybrid turbo and external wastegate, initially without any silencing on the wastegate. On full chat it sounded more like an F1 car than a Scoob!

Once you got to a flat six you can play around with the crank a little to get a left-right-left-right-left-right firing pattern, which allows one to use two short headers and two turbos. The stock Subaru EG33 flat six crank already has a favourable firing order (1-6-3-2-5-4). Dunno about the ER27 and EZ30 cranks, but given the level of thought that has gone into the Subaru engines, I would be immensely surprised if they did not also have a favourable firing pattern.

The "Ferrari sound" is partly to do with the engine layout and the exhaust design. It's possible to make a Subaru "bark" like a Ferrari if that's what you want, you just have to be a little picky with your exhaust design. Stainless steel items will give it the "bark" you're after, and the back box must be short so as not to attenuate the higher frequencies too much.

FWIW, perhaps the best Ferrari engine is a *FLAT* 12 Now, I wonder if I could squeeze the Subaru flat 12 into an Impreza

Cheers,

Pat.

The Subaru flat 12 was a spectacularly unsuccessful and unreliable F1 engine.

The Subaru flat 12, codename B12 wasn't really a Subaru in-house designed flat 12, but it did sport the Subaru logo.... here's a piccy

Cheers,

Pat.

It has been asked before but why ruin a Scooby and make it sound like a Ferrari?

Scooby with correct pipe (my vote is ScoobySport) sounds as good as anything on this planet. If you want a screamer get a Honda!
