Yesterday I spent a few hours replacing the standard coilpacks on my UKMY95 Turbo & oh my god!!!
I was expecting some improvement but was unbelievably impressed with the difference they made
First thing I noticed was that the hesetation that I used to get occasionally was completely gone! I actually said to a friend today that for the first time since I bought the car (over 2yrs ago) i'm actually happy with the way it runs
It's just so smooth through all the gears & the entire rev range
If that wasn't enough to put a smile on my face I also noticed that the knocking I used to get has completely gone
I didn't know that the coils would affect this but I can no longer get the red light on my knocklink to glow, where before I could light it all the time at higher rev's
Then to top it all off I went for a drive today coz the car was nice & clean (120 miles
) & I looked at the fuel guauge. I hadn't even used half a tank of petrol!!! I think i'll get to 140 miles before it gets half way. Now bear in mind that since the Prodrive re-map I was getting 190/200 miles out of my 50ltr tank on normal driving. At this rate i'm gonna get 260-280 miles

Now i'm not mega technical so it would be great if someone could explain the knocking being reduced & the increased fuel consumption. I just can't stop smiling

Has anyone else had these put in their car & had the same effect??
Recommend them to anyone whether your standard coils are fine or not
I think someone needs to do a bulk buy from Oz

If your standard coil spark was breaking down this could cause a misfire, this can be picked up on the knocklink.
The misfiring would also increase fuel consumption.

Maffa,
sounds good - if you like smooth - another area that may contribute even more - I was surprised by how much it improved running - is to carry out the 'earthing' mod.
I am sure that on any car more than a couple of years old it will make a difference. Since early last summer I had a problem with the car not being 'just so'. Since earthing the block, manifold and ECU chassis to the earth the car has been transformed.
I put it down to more accurate timing and due to cleaner signals to the ECU.
Enjoy,
Rannoch

Nice one Maffa, i am getting a missfire once every so often and the earthing mod did clear it up a bit but... I am gonna try and sort out some coilpacks...
Today!!

The coils are only available in Oz but luckily someone had already imported some & sold them to me for £100.00 for 4. I don't know how much they would be to import them but if someone did a bulk buy then i'd recommend them to anyone
They were suprisingly easy to fit. I just disconnected the original coils & then cut the wire on the other side of the clip (the ones to the engine). This was so that I could sell the old coils if need be
. I got some wire from <wisper mode on> Halfords <wisper mode off> & ran those from the originals to the coils. It was then just a case of hooking up the HT leads. The worst ones to do were on the passenger side as I had to remove the intercooler to get to the wires. The other side was easy as I have an induction kit which I just took off.
Mounting them was also suprisingly easy
Two went on the rail that used to hold the airbox down & the other two were mounted on the other side. One on the top of the engine & one down by the alternator. There's plenty of places to bolt them down as they come with some brackets to use.
I'll take some pics later for you to see

Oh yeah & I was actually talking to Dyney about the earthing mod on Saturday as he's done it & so have a few others. God I don't think my car can get any smoother but if that helps even more then thats a result!!

I wonder if my wimpy 311BHP has been affected
Certainly feels like it
Bring on the A264 challenge

Whether it's the warm weather or just because it's running better I don't know
It is bloody loud though!! I think a trip to the Lewis tunnel may be in order

Some pics. The ones under the filter can't really be seen that well but believe me they are there

I may take the induction kit off this weekend so you can see a bit better
