Third pary warrentys???
I got a 12 month warrenty thrown in with the car, when I brought it. MY98 sport. Have not read the small print yet so don't know what is and is not covered.
My brother had taken one out on his Vectra, the water pump failed taking the cam belt with it and so ruined the head. The warrenty did not pay a penny, as it was described as general wear and tear, and he was told he should have noticed a noise before it failed and stopped. The car was in a vauxhall dealer the day before it failed getting serviced and they did not notice, but warrenty still failed to pay.
They also failed to pay for the new gear box, when it stopped going into 5th.
This is why I am not holding my breath on my warrenty being any use.

My warranty is with Warranty Wise. I decided not to renew the Subaru extended warranty since I was looking to sell the car at the time. I decided to keep it for a bit longer, but when I went back to Subaru to ask if I could renew, they told me no - you need to do it as soon as the original one expires and not a day later - WTF
This was like a month later
Anyway, I've not made any claims, so can't comment on how good or bad they are. I've heard a couple of good reports about them specifically and have paid out on one or two Scoobs.
If I had known then what I know now, I'd have stuck with the Subaru warranty. It's always best to have backup from the manufacturer (although it isn't actually Subaru/FHI, but a seperate UK company that deal with the warranty on behalf of Subaru).
Cost me £500 (their 'Total' cover - < 48K miles) for 2years and according to the small print covers everything with only a few exceptions.
Like all extended warranties you may have a fight if they start saying it's wear 'n tear.
