Since decatting my scoob 2 months ago you can really hear the turbo spinning up and down, is this normal or is my turbo dying? Although is a high mile engine (93000), There's no smoke or anything. I'm scared

Drexel,

It does become more noticeable to hear the turbo spinning up/down when you de-cat. As long as its not a high pitched whining/whistling noise your OK. Trust me, you'll know if it sounds fcuked as its very different to normal turbo whistle.

If the turbo is gubbed or on its way out, get it sorted sooner rather than later, otherwise it collapses and could trash the whole engine so beware.

It's quite high pitched but it's more 'whooiiiiiishhh' than whistle. Maybe I should get a dealer to have a listen?

I wouldn't take it to a dealer, unless they're very 'relaxed' - you'll find out that you've 'broken' the turbo because of decatting
Take it to a Subaru specialist instead if you're worried, although if the sound turned up at exactly the same time as the decat, it's unlikely there's a problem!
If it's the original turbo, it may be 'getting on a bit' now anyway. Depends on the type (I'm no expert here!). However, if you have a UK (so it would be a TD05) they can be serviced pretty cheaply (£100ish?) so not to worry!

It's an MY97 UK. As far as I know it's the original turbo, If it's that cheap to get it serviced then I'll probably get it done anyway.

Thumbs up

MY 97 UK is likely to be a TD04 I think. Sourcing a front entry TD05 would be a good option for a bit more power without sacrificing much power low down.
I've just sold my one but J Banks has just removed one from his car last night. Drop him an Email, I think offers IRO £300 might just secure it !
