Question

About to replace my OEM clutch pretty soon.

I was just wondering how many people running 340+BHP and 300+lbft torque have run/are running with standard clutch?

How long did it last if you did?

Did you feel an improvement in power due to less drivetrain losses from an uprated clutch?

Just interested to know Peoples thoughts on OEM and uprated.

I think i am pretty sympathetic towards my clutch and gearbox, but only time will tell.

I have done 16000 miles with standard ish 250~270 power and then 8000miles with approx 340bhp and 315lbft.

Just wondering if you think i have done ok making it last that long?

Cheers for any thoughts

Steven

My clutch is still not slipping, shame about the gearbox though.

Just borrowed T-uk's Blitz NurSpec, but it did with an extra degree of timing give about 8 BHP at the wheels. Could not run as much timing without it. You can see how frisky the boost control is after fitting it - just uncorks everything. Can't wait for a 3" system now

you are sympathetic, except when p1ssed off.. then the car gets it taken out on it..

You do well with that..

Start saving for the box though..

Steven,

Clutch in my car was out of an Sti IV (Mark's in fact) and it slipped if I tried a smartish start.

Before Elvington I realised that it would never last so bought one of the uprated ones from Mark (which in reality is no more expensive than stock) and had it fitted with a lightened and balanced flywheel.

The clutch that came out was totaly shagged, and the flywheel was badly cracked accross the mating surface from excessive heat.

With the new clutch and flywheel fitted the car was much more responsive, and felt like it was pulling far better...all I can assume is that I was getting a tiny bit of slip a lot of the time.

Personally if your going to the trouble of replacing the clutch then fit an uprated one. The Lateral Performance non paddle clutch is a great compromise for road use, peddle pressure is lighter than standard(unlike the Helix and AP which are heavier than standard), in normal use won't slip, and should last well...plus it will give you a bit of leeway when you go for more power

Tim, Helix may be heavier but AP most certainly isn't.

My OE clutch (MY00 euro turbo) started slipping early (VF24@1.3-ish bar IIRC) in higher gears/lower rpm situations, it didn't get any worse, and when it was replaced it didn't seem worn really.

<1.3 bar worked well though.

I had it replaced with a paddle clutch @ 64k (power went up around 20k miles when I had the puny td04 replaced).

/J

Funny that, cause i have just changed to HKS Hiper, which has changed the car unbelievably. Boost comes in from what i can see about 200 revs lower, dont know why, and when it comes in it kicks like hell.

Sound is ok for me ATM, even without the bung in, and i do about 100+ miles a day. Blitz is louder isnt it?

Even Mr Wallis said it felt quick, which is nice

Cheers David for the above comment, and your post above, not loosing my marbles after all
