hi all, i've been hanging around this forum for quite a while now and have finally decided to register seeing that i'm very close to buying a scoob. i have two questions - i am going for a test drive on saturday, what things do i need to look out for as a passenger and while driving? And secondly, does anyone know of any reliable/reputable garages around the heathrow area that will service a jap car. (for spec on the car - its on the warrender website, the ex jap show car with all the stickers on it)

The usual things you would check on a car - make sure it goes straight when you let go of the wheel... make sure it accelerates well...

make sure the check engine light comes ON when you turn the ignition on, and goes OFF (and stays off) when the engine is running. ( a check to see if there is still a bulb in it )

HPI check is a good idea (always a good idea when you're parting with a fair bit of money for a car, as it's cheap "insurance")

Do your homework and read the SIDC FAQ! (can't remember URL )

Usual stuff check tyres and brakes bodywork etc. Check the service history and get the previous owners name off the V5, if they will give it to you. Get the model code of the VIN and check against SIDC model codes to make sure it is what you think it is.

Also ask what mods have been done (stuff that aint standard) as it will affect your insurance. Oh and get an insurnace quote and make sure you are sitting down at the time

If its full decatted make sure you get the cat pipes back as it wont pass an MOT without them and they aint cheap if you need to buy one.

Check all the panel gaps are the same, as differences are usually due to accident damage.
Ring the previous owner - most will be happy to tell you the cars history now they don't own it.(comeback will be on the dealer)
Don't sign anything or leave a diposit until your 100% sure- theres plenty out there so don't let your heart rule your head.
